Women allegedly forged birth records; part of wider syndicate under MACC investigation

Two women have been remanded for five days as part of a widening Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation into the falsification of birth registration documents in Selangor. The arrests are the latest development in the ongoing Ops Birth and Ops Outlander operations.

The suspects, a 43-year-old clinic assistant and a 49-year-old self-employed woman, were detained on April 22 at the MACC Selangor headquarters. They are being investigated for alleged involvement in a scheme that forged hospital documents to falsely register infant births.

According to a source familiar with the case, the 49-year-old acted as an agent by handling and preparing forged supporting documents from multiple hospitals across Selangor. Meanwhile, the clinic assistant allegedly posed as a civil servant to bypass official procedures and is said to have accepted a RM10,000 bribe from one applicant.

Remand Order Granted for Investigation

Magistrate Mohamed Redza Azhar Rezali granted the remand order from April 23 to April 26 following an application by MACC. The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly receiving bribes in exchange for administrative assistance.

Syndicate Allegedly Active Since 2013

Authorities believe the operation extends as far back as 2013. A March sweep under Ops Outlander and Ops Birth led to the arrest of 16 more suspects, including a government officer, a lawyer, and a medical practitioner bearing the title ‘Datuk Seri.’ The suspects are believed to have collectively solicited and received bribes while producing falsified birth verification forms.

Forgery Spanning Multiple States

The syndicate reportedly operated across the Klang Valley and Johor, exploiting systemic loopholes in birth registration processes. The forged documents were allegedly used to create false identities, possibly for illegal immigration, child trafficking, or benefit fraud.

Selangor MACC Director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim confirmed the investigation and reminded the public to report any suspicious registration activity. Authorities are expected to widen the probe as more leads emerge.

The MACC’s expanding probe into falsified birth registrations highlights the need for tighter control over civil documentation processes. With syndicate members allegedly active for over a decade, the scandal underscores how systemic loopholes can be exploited—raising urgent concerns about national security, public trust, and governance transparency.
