Healer in Johor Baru links theft of women’s undergarments to spiritual attacks and black magic

A traditional healer in Johor Baru has sparked concern after revealing a disturbing trend of undergarment thefts allegedly linked to black magic rituals, as victims reporting unexplained illnesses.

Healer Warns of Spiritually Driven Crimes

Hakim Jaafar, an Islamic spiritual healer from the Syria Asma Healing Centre in Johor Baru, claims to have treated several patients suffering from symptoms believed to be caused by black magic. These cases, according to him, often begin after victims—mostly women—report the mysterious theft of their undergarments.

Symptoms Point to Spiritual Disturbances

Victims reportedly experience intense body aches, persistent headaches, insomnia, and recurring nightmares. Hakim noted that through the ruqyah process, a form of Islamic spiritual healing using Quranic recitations, the root causes are sometimes revealed to stem from envy, personal conflict, or even occult interference.

Ruqyah: Islamic Defense Against the Unseen

Ruqyah is a widely recognised practice in Islam used to combat ailments caused by black magic, jinn (unseen spirits), or the evil eye. Hakim affirmed that many of his patients recover through consistent spiritual treatment, emotional support, and reinforced personal devotion, such as regular zikir (praising Allah).

Black Magic Allegations Highlight Cultural Concerns

The healer’s statement, originally reported by Sinar Harian, highlights deep-seated fears in some Malaysian communities regarding the misuse of spiritual practices for personal harm. Hakim warned that jealousy and unresolved conflict often play into why such rituals are invoked against unsuspecting victims.

Call for Awareness and Divine Reliance

While traditional methods play a role, Hakim emphasized that healing ultimately lies in God’s hands. “Spiritual practices are powerful,” he said, “but they must be rooted in sincerity and belief in divine intervention.” He urged the public to stay vigilant and spiritually grounded.

The case has reignited debate over the intersection of crime and spirituality in Southeast Asia. As some crimes reportedly carry a spiritual motive, experts stress the importance of both community awareness and robust faith practices to deter such behavior from spreading.

This revelation underscores the complex blend of cultural beliefs and criminal activity in Malaysia, raising both spiritual and legal concerns. With reports of spiritual manipulation using stolen items on the rise, the call for greater education and prevention is now stronger than ever — especially for communities navigating between tradition and modernity.
