Child suffered facial injuries after falling from open window while father stopped to take a call

A three-year-old boy in Malaysia suffered facial injuries after falling out of a moving vehicle. His father, unaware of the incident, drove on for two kilometres before realising his son was missing.

The incident occurred around 11am on April 7, 2025, along Jalan Lipis-Merapoh, in Pahang state, while the father and son were travelling from Kampung Tempoyang to their home in Kampung Berembang, Kuala Lumpur.

Left Behind Without Realising

According to Lipis police chief Ismail Man, the 36-year-old father had stopped his car by the roadside near the 5km mark of Jalan Lipis-Merapoh to answer a phone call. At that point, he left the rear left window open. After the call, he continued his journey, unaware that his son had fallen from the vehicle.

Two kilometres later, at the 7km point, he realised his son was no longer in the car. The panicked father searched along the roadside but was unable to locate the child and proceeded to file a police report at the Kuala Lipis police station.

Boy Rescued by Passerby

As fate would have it, while the father was reporting the incident, police received word that the boy had been found. A concerned passerby had seen the injured child standing alone at the roadside and brought him to the Padang Tengku police station. He was then sent to the Padang Tengku Health Clinic and later transferred to the Kuala Lipis Hospital for further treatment.

Police confirmed the child suffered facial injuries from the fall but was in a stable condition.

Investigations determined that the child had fallen through the open rear window of the vehicle while his father was parked. The boy was likely unrestrained at the time, and no child safety seat was mentioned in the reports.

The case is being investigated under Section 337 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by an act that endangers life or personal safety.

Authorities urge all drivers, especially parents, to ensure that children are safely secured in proper restraints at all times, even when the vehicle is stationary. Leaving windows open, especially with young children unmonitored in the back seat, poses a significant risk.

The case serves as a sobering reminder about the importance of child safety in vehicles. Quick action by a concerned passerby likely prevented a more tragic outcome. As the investigation continues, the public is reminded to always prioritise vigilance when travelling with children.
