A woman identified as RC was horrified to find a hidden surveillance camera in the shared bathroom of her Batuaji boarding house in Batam, allegedly installed by a security guard residing in the same building. The device was cleverly disguised in a dirty laundry bucket, aimed directly at the toilet.

RC’s suspicions arose when she noticed an oddly placed laundry bucket in the bathroom. Upon inspecting it, she discovered a small hole—later found to be a lens for a mini CCTV camera. The device, paired with a concealed power bank, was aimed at the toilet. When RC attempted to confront the situation, the bucket vanished within minutes.
Security Guard’s Room Reveals Similar Device
The investigation deepened as RC, joined by other tenants, searched nearby rooms. They discovered another similar bucket in the security guard’s room, with the same suspicious hole. Further tracing revealed the camera equipment had been purchased by the guard in mid-February, indicating premeditation.
Evidence Destroyed, But Victim Presses On
Despite RC filing a police report, the suspect allegedly destroyed key evidence, including the footage and camera equipment. He reportedly admitted to having viewed the footage before destroying it. The bucket was found dismembered, likely in an effort to conceal the crime.
RC disclosed that the suspect’s family requested a peaceful settlement, citing the man’s upcoming wedding. However, she firmly refused, emphasizing that the swift exposure of the crime might indicate he had done it before. “If God revealed it this quickly, maybe this wasn’t his first time,” she said.
RC has consulted a lawyer and intends to pursue full legal action. The police are continuing their investigation into the case. The incident has sparked public anger in Batam, calling attention to growing concerns over women’s safety in shared housing environments.
