Government reaffirms Rempang Eco-City’s status as a national strategic project under Indonesia’s new RPJMN, aiming for industrial and economic growth in Batam.
The integrated development project, Rempang Eco-City, remains a crucial part of Indonesia’s National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for 2025-2029. The Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam) confirmed the project’s continued strategic importance, aligning with national objectives to drive economic expansion, industrial corridor development, and increased employment opportunities in Batam.
BP Batam, through its Head of Public Relations, Promotions, and Protocol, Ariastuty Sirait, reaffirmed that Rempang Eco-City is officially listed in Indonesia’s RPJMN 2025-2029. The project is included under Presidential Regulation No. 12 of 2025, emphasizing its national significance. The development aims to transform Rempang into a major industrial and investment hub, strengthening Batam’s economy while providing job opportunities for local communities.
Government Endorsement and Economic Potential
The government’s support of Rempang Eco-City reinforces its commitment to strengthening Batam’s industrial sector. The area is expected to attract large-scale investments in manufacturing, trade, and logistics. BP Batam highlighted that the project will create extensive employment opportunities, boost small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and enhance Batam’s position as a global economic zone.
Housing and Infrastructure Enhancements
The ongoing development includes the second phase of residential construction, along with public infrastructure such as roads, utilities, and community facilities. BP Batam believes these enhancements will shift public perception positively, ensuring that the local population benefits from new housing and improved living conditions. Seamless government-community engagement is a priority to facilitate social and economic integration.
Besides Rempang Eco-City, the government is also advancing other strategic projects in Batam. These include the expansion of Batuampar and Kabil Ports, the construction of the Outer Ring Road from Tanjungpinggir to Jodoh, and the development of Galang Maritime City. Special Economic Zones (KEK) in Batam Aero Technic, Nongsa, Sekupang, and Tanjungsauh are set to further strengthen Batam’s role as a major industrial and commercial hub.
Advancing Transport and Water Infrastructure
Key infrastructure improvements include the expansion of the Regional Water Supply System (SPAM), the Batam Urban and Industrial Sewerage System, and plans for the Batam Light Rail Transit (LRT) linking Hang Nadim Airport to Batam Center and Batu Ampar. Additionally, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system connecting Batam Center and Tanjung Uncang will enhance connectivity and support transit-oriented development (TOD), facilitating smoother urban mobility.
The Indonesian government’s commitment to accelerating development in Batam through projects like Rempang Eco-City and other strategic initiatives underscores the city’s growing economic importance.
