Batam, February 22, 2025 – Tanjung Beach in Tanjung Uma, Batam, will be the site of a large-scale clean-up event to commemorate National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) 2025. Scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 8:00 to 11:00 AM WIB, the initiative is spearheaded by PT BatamOn Global Group as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability.
Organized in collaboration with Forum Peduli Sampah Seluruh Indonesia (FORPASI) and Dompet Dhuafa Kepri, and supported by various business, educational, and community partners, this event aims to raise awareness about responsible waste management and environmental protection.
As a company specializing in human resources management, PT BatamOn Global Group not only focuses on business but also actively engages in social initiatives, including the Tanjung Uma Empowerment Program, which has been running since March 2023. The clean-up action will bring together more than 100 volunteers from various companies, institutions, universities, schools, and local communities. Additionally, Dompet Dhuafa Kepri’s health volunteers will contribute by providing medical support to participants and residents.
“This initiative is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to environmental conservation, particularly in coastal areas like Tanjung Beach, Tanjung Uma, which faces significant waste management challenges,” said Villiana Putri Utami, Director of PT BatamOn Global Group.
Tanjung Beach was chosen as the clean-up site due to its ongoing waste issues, making this initiative an essential first step in encouraging greater public responsibility for waste management and environmental stewardship.
This year’s National Waste Awareness Day carries the theme “Collaboration for a Clean Indonesia”, featuring not just clean-up efforts but also various social and environmental initiatives.

The event gathered 157 volunteers from different communities, businesses, and educational institutions, who successfully collected and removed 791.5 kg of waste from Tanjung Beach. Additionally, a free health check-up service was provided, benefiting 18 residents from RT 4, RW 1, Tanjung Uma Village.
As part of the commemoration, participants also observed a moment of silence to honor the victims of the Leuwigajah landfill disaster, marking two decades since the tragedy. This served as a solemn reminder of the critical need for improved waste management practices to prevent similar disasters in the future.
This initiative was made possible through the participation of various organizations, including SMA Maitreyawira, WCD Batam, J&T Batam, Harris Hotel Barelang, Yello Hotel, SMA Kallista, SMA Negeri 2 Batam, Bye-Bye Plastic Bag Batam, MAPALA ITEBA, MAPALA Polibatam, Grand Mercure Batam Center.

Through this initiative, participants have demonstrated that small actions, when done together, can create a lasting impact on the environment and the community.
