Strategic partnerships aim to transform Batam into Indonesia’s green investment hub.

In a bold move to combat global warming and climate change, BP Batam is spearheading initiatives to attract investments in renewable energy. On February 12, 2025, BP Batam’s Director of Traffic Service for Goods and Investment, Surya Kurniawan, met with Sustainability Economics’ CEO and Co-Founder, Kasu Venkata Reddy, to discuss Batam’s potential in the renewable energy sector.

As the Indonesian government intensifies efforts to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE), BP Batam is aligning its strategies to support this national objective. Kurniawan added, “BP Batam continues to introduce Batam’s potential as a premier green investment destination in Indonesia.” He expressed hope that collaboration with entities like Sustainability Economics would benefit Batam’s residents through the advancement of clean energy.

Beyond infrastructure, BP Batam is committed to creating regulations that support eco-friendly investments. This includes streamlining licensing processes and offering incentives to investors focusing on renewable energy development. Such initiatives are crucial as Indonesia aims to increase its renewable energy mix to 23% by 2025, a target that requires substantial investment and policy support.

Sustainability Economics responded positively to BP Batam’s initiatives, expressing interest in establishing a long-term partnership. Reddy highlighted Batam’s strategic location and the local government’s strong commitment as significant advantages. He remarked, “Batam has immense potential as a clean energy hub in Southeast Asia.”

BP Batam’s proactive approach in fostering clean energy investments not only aligns with Indonesia’s national goals but also positions Batam as a leader in sustainable development. For Singaporeans and international visitors, this transformation signifies a future where Batam emerges as a model for green investment and environmental stewardship in the region.
