Couple’s Travel Agency Linked to Terrorism-Related Activities
In a significant move underscoring Singapore’s unwavering commitment to national security, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has deported 38-year-old Iranian national Parvane Heidaridehkordi and her 65-year-old Malaysian husband, Soo Thean Ling. The couple was found to be involved in activities deemed prejudicial to Singapore’s security, leading to their expulsion and a permanent ban on re-entry.
The MHA’s decision came after thorough investigations revealed that Parvane was actively involved in the operations of a Singapore-registered travel agency. This agency had been sponsoring visa applications for foreigners with known terrorism links, facilitating their entry into Singapore. Further probing uncovered that the travel agency was merely a front for an operation orchestrated by an overseas-based individual. Consequently, the agency has been deregistered to prevent any further security breaches.
Attempts to Establish New Entities
Despite the ongoing investigations, Soo attempted to register a new company to conduct travel agency business in Singapore on two separate occasions. His intention was for Parvane to manage these businesses, which would have likely continued to support the entry of terrorism-linked individuals into the country. Both of Soo’s applications were rejected on national security grounds, highlighting the authorities’ vigilance in preventing potential threats.
In response to their activities, the Controller of Immigration took decisive action by canceling Parvane’s Long-Term Visit Pass and Soo’s Entry and Re-Entry Permits. This move effectively stripped them of their legal rights to reside in Singapore. Subsequently, both individuals were declared Prohibited Immigrants under the Immigration Act, leading to their deportation and a permanent ban from re-entering Singapore.

This case is not an isolated incident. Singapore has consistently demonstrated a zero-tolerance policy towards individuals, both foreign and local, who engage in activities that pose security risks. In a related context, the Internal Security Department (ISD) has previously investigated multiple individuals for suspected radical inclinations and inciting violence. For instance, following a series of terrorist attacks abroad, 37 individuals were scrutinized, leading to the deportation of 16 foreigners. These actions underscore the nation’s proactive stance in safeguarding its security interests.
Public Advisory and Vigilance
The MHA has reiterated the importance of public vigilance in maintaining national security. Foreigners residing in Singapore are reminded that engaging in activities that pose security risks will result in the revocation of their immigration facilities and subsequent deportation. The public is also encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
Singapore’s actions in this case reflect its steadfast commitment to preserving national security and social harmony. By taking decisive measures against individuals involved in activities that threaten the nation’s safety, Singapore sends a clear message about its intolerance for any form of extremism or terrorism-related activities within its borders.
The deportation of Parvane Heidaridehkordi and Soo Thean Ling serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present threats to national security. For the citizens of Singapore and international visitors alike, this incident underscores the importance of remaining vigilant and supporting the authorities in their efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment. Singapore’s proactive stance ensures that it remains a bastion of safety in an increasingly volatile global landscape.
