Indonesia is reaffirming its commitment to regional tourism cooperation by actively participating in the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2025 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, from January 15 to 20, 2024. Represented by Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Indonesia aims to enhance collaboration with ASEAN partners and key global stakeholders to strengthen the region’s tourism potential.
The ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) serves as a crucial platform for member nations to promote tourism collaboration and enhance intra-regional connectivity. The 2025 edition in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, brings together top government officials, business leaders, and industry stakeholders to discuss strategies for post-pandemic tourism recovery and sustainable travel initiatives.
Indonesia’s participation highlights its strong regional commitment to boosting Southeast Asia’s tourism sector. Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana attended the opening ceremony at the Johor International Convention Center on January 18, 2024, underscoring Indonesia’s dedication to enhancing cooperation within ASEAN.

Minister Widiyanti emphasized that Indonesia’s participation in ATF 2025 is a deliberate effort to strengthen regional ties and promote high-quality tourism. The theme for this year’s forum, “Unity in Motion: Shaping ASEAN’s Tourism Tomorrow,” reflects the collective commitment to sustainable and inclusive tourism development.
As part of the forum’s agenda, Minister Widiyanti engaged in a bilateral meeting with South Korea’s Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Yu In-Chon. Discussions centered on expanding ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) collaborations, with a focus on joint tourism promotion and cross-border travel facilitation.
The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening public interest in travel between Indonesia and South Korea. Minister Widiyanti outlined cooperation strategies that include mutual promotion of tourist destinations, cultural exchanges, and investment in travel infrastructure. These efforts are expected to increase tourism flows between the two nations.
Beyond bilateral talks, Indonesia is actively involved in multilateral discussions with ASEAN counterparts. Topics covered include regional marketing strategies, digital transformation in tourism, and sustainable ecotourism initiatives. Indonesia’s extensive natural and cultural heritage positions it as a key player in ASEAN’s long-term tourism development strategy.
In the coming days, Minister Widiyanti is set to meet with representatives from various ASEAN countries and global tourism organizations. Discussions will focus on expanding tourism-related economic opportunities, improving air connectivity, and fostering innovation in travel experiences.
Indonesia’s active role in ASEAN tourism development could lead to enhanced travel options, streamlined visa policies, and more integrated tourism packages across Southeast Asia. The collaboration with South Korea also presents new opportunities for cross-border travel experiences. With ASEAN nations committed to sustainable tourism, visitors can expect improved infrastructure, eco-friendly destinations, and seamless regional connectivity.
