Strategic Infrastructure Boost to Attract More Investments in Batam

The Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam) has prioritized the construction of nine strategic road projects in 2025 to strengthen Batam’s investment climate and boost economic growth. This infrastructure initiative, totaling 14.75 kilometers in length, aims to improve accessibility, enhance logistics, and stimulate regional development.

BP Batam Chief Muhammad Rudi confirmed that the road development plan was finalized during a coordination meeting with regional stakeholders (Forkopimda). The estimated budget for infrastructure projects in Batam for 2025 is IDR 1.9 trillion (SGD 157.7 million), with over SGD 83.7 million allocated to road and infrastructure development.

As Batam continues to position itself as a key economic hub in Southeast Asia, infrastructure remains a critical component in attracting foreign investments. The nine major road projects, aimed at enhancing connectivity across key industrial and commercial zones, will support logistics, transportation, and accessibility improvements.

The planned roads, totaling 14.75 kilometers, include key arteries such as Jalan Ahmad Yani (3.8 km), Jalan Kartini (3.8 km), Jalan R. Suprapto (1.6 km), Jalan Letjend Suprapto (1.5 km), and Jalan Gadjah Mada (1.4 km). Additionally, smaller but strategically vital routes like Jalan Prambanan (0.85 km), Jalan Kuda Laut (0.6 km), Jalan Engku H. Tua (0.6 km), and Jalan Lumba-Lumba (0.6 km) will be developed.

BP Batam Chief Muhammad Rudi emphasized that infrastructure readiness is a key factor in creating a conducive business environment. The project will focus on enhancing road networks to improve traffic flow and connectivity between key industrial hubs, facilitating investment expansion.

IDR 1.9 Trillion (SGD 157.7 Million) Budget Allocated

BP Batam’s 2025 budget stands at IDR 1.9 trillion (SGD 157.7 million), with over 54.51% allocated for strategic area development. The funds are sourced from non-tax state revenue (PNBP BLU) at 99.27%, foreign loans at 0.44%, and local government support at 0.29%.

Public Engagement and Socialization to Ensure Smooth Execution

To ensure minimal disruption and public support, BP Batam plans to conduct public consultations and outreach programs. The authority will also coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including local businesses and transport operators, to optimize implementation.

The new road networks will enhance connectivity between Batam’s industrial zones, including Batamindo, Muka Kuning, and Batu Ampar Port, improving logistics efficiency and reducing transportation costs for businesses.

The road expansion project is part of BP Batam’s broader commitment to facilitating investment in key sectors, including logistics, industrial development, and tourism. It will also support the government’s National Strategic Project (PSN) Rempang Eco City on Pulau Rempang, designed to boost Batam’s economic competitiveness.

Batam’s enhanced infrastructure will significantly improve investment opportunities, particularly in manufacturing, logistics, and commercial sectors. The improved road network will reduce transport time, making Batam an even more competitive choice for business expansion. With greater accessibility to industrial hubs and ports, companies operating in Batam will benefit from better logistics and supply chain efficiencies, ensuring smoother trade and investment flows between Batam and Singapore.

Batam’s government has announced the construction of nine key roads in 2025, totaling 14.75 kilometers, to enhance investment attractiveness and improve regional connectivity. The IDR 1.9 trillion (SGD 157.7 million) budget will prioritize infrastructure, investment facilitation, and economic expansion. BP Batam will ensure public consultation and socialization to support seamless execution. The initiative will strengthen Batam’s position as a leading economic hub in Southeast Asia, benefiting Singaporean and international investors through improved logistics and accessibility.
