A grand funeral was held for 42-year-old Chen Jinwen, a prominent Johor Bahru resident who was shot dead outside a restaurant on January 8. The ceremony, attended by 1,500 mourners, featured lion dancers, Indian drums, and traditional rituals. Police are investigating the high-profile murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Chen Jinwen, a 42-year-old leader of the Persatuan Penganut Agama Kuang Sheng in Johor, was tragically killed on January 8, 2025. The incident shocked the community, leading to a grand farewell ceremony on January 12. The elaborate send-off reflected his prominence in the community and featured cultural traditions.
Chen’s funeral drew over 1,500 mourners, including family and friends. The ceremony began at 1 PM at the Tiong Hua Funeral Parlour, featuring three lion dancers, Indian drumming, and traditional Chinese rituals.

At 4 PM, the procession commenced. Twenty men carried the coffin on bamboo poles, followed by a vehicle representing Chen’s debt collection agency. Over 100 electronic wreaths lined the route, emphasizing his influence.

Chen was laid to rest at Nirvana Memorial Park in Kulai. Roads leading to the cemetery were adorned with wreaths and banners, marking the solemn occasion.
Chen was shot four times from behind on January 8 while taking a call outside a restaurant in Taman Setia Indah. The murder, described as a possible gang hit, is under investigation by Johor police.
