Johor’s healthcare sector is poised for significant growth following the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) agreement signed earlier this month. Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Johor’s Chief Minister, highlighted potential collaboration with Singapore in expertise exchange, joint research, and medical tourism during a meeting with Singapore’s Health Minister Ong Ye Kung in Kota Iskandar on January 14.

The JS-SEZ agreement, signed on January 7, has paved the way for enhanced healthcare partnerships between Johor and Singapore. Johor’s Mentri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, hosted Singapore’s Health Minister Ong Ye Kung to discuss cross-border opportunities in healthcare innovation and efficiency.

Datuk Onn Hafiz highlighted the potential for exchanging expertise, conducting joint research, and promoting cross-border medical tourism through the JS-SEZ. This initiative aims to improve healthcare access and services for residents of both countries.

Establishing Centers of Excellence

Role of the RTS Link

State health committee chairman Ling Tian Soon emphasized the importance of the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, set to improve connectivity between Johor and Singapore. Once operational, it will significantly ease cross-border travel for healthcare purposes.

Johor aims to attract Singapore-based biotechnology companies to invest in the SEZ. These investments are expected to enhance innovation and contribute to a robust healthcare ecosystem in Johor.
