Tragedy in Batam: Landslide Leaves Four Dead, Five Hospitalized
A devastating landslide in Tiban Koperasi, Batam, has claimed the lives of four residents, injured five, and left two people missing. Authorities are intensifying rescue efforts, deploying heavy machinery to clear rubble and locate those unaccounted for.
In the early hours of Monday, January 13, 2025, a landslide struck the Tiban Koperasi area in Batam, Indonesia, causing significant destruction. Five houses were buried, leading to multiple casualties and ongoing search-and-rescue efforts led by local authorities and emergency teams.
Four residents, including Mujiyadi and Sukarni of Blok S 27A, were confirmed dead, while five others sustained injuries and were taken to BP Batam Hospital. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate the missing couple, Doni Aprianto and Linda Lusiana, from Blok S 28A.
The evacuation is being led by Sekupang Police Chief Kompol Benhur Gultom with support from Basarnas, Satpol PP, and local government agencies. Heavy machinery and manual digging efforts are underway to clear debris and recover victims.
Residents, including Azizah, have shared heart-wrenching accounts. “Their child was found safe, but we are still praying for Pak Doni and his wife,” she said, expressing hope amid the tragedy.
