Singaporeans on Interpol’s Red Notice for Serious Crimes
About 80 individuals with links to Singapore are on Interpol’s Red Notice list, including 40 Singaporeans wanted for crimes such as murder and fraud. Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam shared these details in response to questions in Parliament, shedding light on Singapore’s role in tackling international crime.
A Red Notice, issued by Interpol, acts as a global alert for locating and arresting individuals pending extradition. It is not an arrest warrant but a request for assistance from Interpol member states.
Minister Shanmugam revealed approximately 80 individuals on Interpol’s Red Notice list have ties to Singapore. Of these, about half are Singaporeans, with the rest being foreigners linked to the nation.
Five Singaporeans with active Red Notices are publicly listed:
1. Siak Lai Chun: Allegedly embezzled SGD 18.7 million through fake cashier orders.
2. Muhammad Ridzuan Johan: Wanted for a 2007 murder.
3. Muhammad Faidhil Mawi: Accused in a 2006 murder case.
4. Neo Soon Joo: Suspected of armed robbery and kidnapping in 2008.
5. Pony Poh Yuan Nie: Implicated in helping students cheat in the 2016 O-level exams.
Foreigners with Red Notices had entered Singapore before alerts were issued. Authorities screen all immigration applications for adverse information, ensuring ongoing safety and security.

Yan Zhenxing, a Chinese national and Singapore PR, was detained in Batam for alleged money laundering involving SGD 24.2 million. Although flagged by a Red Notice, Singapore authorities found insufficient evidence under local laws to act against him.
Singapore works within its legal framework to cooperate with issuing countries. Police investigate Red Notice subjects locally and act on requests for extradition when substantiated by evidence.
The inclusion of Singapore-linked individuals in Interpol’s Red Notice underscores the nation’s commitment to upholding international security. While providing assurances to residents and visitors, Singapore’s rigorous checks reflect its stance on law and order, ensuring that its laws align with global crime prevention efforts.
