Special tax rates for businesses and skilled workers to attract investment and create jobs.
Malaysia has unveiled a suite of tax incentives to attract high-value investments and skilled talent to its Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Effective from January 1, 2025, businesses in sectors like artificial intelligence, aerospace, and medical manufacturing can enjoy tax rates as low as 5% for up to 15 years. Skilled workers will also benefit, with income tax capped at 15% for 10 years.
The Johor-Singapore SEZ, announced during Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s visit to Malaysia, represents a landmark collaboration aimed at fostering cross-border economic integration. The zone focuses on facilitating investment, easing movement of goods and people, and driving growth in manufacturing, logistics, tourism, and green energy.
Tax Incentives for Businesses and Workers
Companies investing in cutting-edge sectors such as quantum computing and aerospace will benefit from a 5% tax rate for up to 15 years. Skilled professionals working in the SEZ will enjoy a flat 15% income tax rate for a decade, making the zone highly competitive for global talent.

Unprecedented Cross-Border Collaboration
The SEZ is unique, as two nations are jointly developing a shared economic space. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted this as a rare and ambitious initiative, with both countries working closely to ensure mutual benefits and long-term economic growth.
Attracting High-Value Investments
The SEZ targets 50 projects within its first five years, aiming to attract investments in advanced manufacturing, logistics, and energy transition. This initiative is projected to create 20,000 skilled jobs, boosting Johor’s economic landscape and enhancing regional connectivity.
Infrastructure and Financial Support
Malaysia will establish a dedicated infrastructure fund to assist companies setting up operations in the zone, while Singapore plans to create its own investment support mechanisms for businesses operating in Johor.
