Batam Customs authorities conducted 364 successful operations from November 4 to December 10, 2024, targeting illegal goods smuggling, preventing financial losses, and ensuring national security. These operations highlighted Indonesia’s intensified efforts against smuggling activities.
Aligned with Indonesia’s vision for 2045, Batam Customs launched a rigorous campaign against smuggling operations under the Desk for Prevention and Eradication of Smuggling. The campaign showcases strong collaboration between customs, police, military, and other agencies to curb illegal trade and protect national interests.
1. Seizures at Sea
– A patrol intercepted an unnamed high-speed craft carrying 7.4 tons of tin sand, valued at S$99,600, bound for illegal export.
– Another raid on KLM Karya Wafo uncovered 2,840 tires, clothing, and health products worth S$357,900.
2. Airport and Port Interventions
– Luxury Engines and Accessories: Seized three pallets containing car and motorbike engines valued at IDR 1.3 billion (~SGD 108,300).
– Medical Devices and Cosmetics: Detained shipments of unauthorized imports in collaboration with multiple agencies.

3. Passenger Smuggling Cases
– Electronics Worth Millions: Confiscated 434 mobile devices valued at IDR 2.6 billion (~SGD 216,000).
– Ivory Smuggling Disrupted: Secured 40kg of elephant ivory valued at IDR 520 million (~SGD 43,160).
4. Excise Goods Enforcement
– Illegal Tobacco Products: Seized 471,124 cigarettes and unregistered tobacco pouches valued at IDR 900 million (~SGD 74,700).
– Alcoholic Beverages Confiscation: 58 liters of unregistered alcoholic drinks valued at IDR 33 million (~SGD 2,739).
5. Narcotics and Drug Interception
Major Drug Busts: Prevented 2.4kg of methamphetamine smuggling using methods like body strapping and swallowing. The seized drugs, worth over IDR 920 million (~SGD 76,360), potentially saved 12,600 lives.
