Scam Targets Singaporeans Seeking Support Schemes via Fake Government Portal
Singapore police are investigating a sophisticated phishing scam that impersonates a government support portal. Victims were misled into providing personal and financial details, including credit card information, under the guise of claiming subsidies.
The scam was flagged by cybersecurity firm Group-IB on December 13, 2024, after the discovery of a fake version of the SupportGoWhere website. Victims were duped via SMS links, directing them to a fraudulent site that mimicked the official government portal, asking for sensitive data.
Scam Mechanism Identified
Victims received SMS links to a fake website, mimicking the SupportGoWhere portal. They were instructed to input personal details and bank information, including two-factor authentication codes, to claim supposed subsidies.

Link to Broader Cybercrime Network
Group-IB revealed that this scam is part of a larger phishing campaign linked to 20 active and 612 dormant scam websites. These include fake portals demanding parking fine payments or resolving undelivered parcels.
Public Urged to Stay Vigilant
Cybersecurity expert Vladimir Kalugin from Group-IB emphasized the importance of vigilance against unsolicited messages, especially those requesting sensitive details. The Government Technology Agency (GovTech) reiterated the need to verify URLs ending in “.gov.sg” and avoid suspicious links.
ScamShield and Other Initiatives
GovTech highlighted its ongoing efforts, including the ScamShield app and Scam Analysis and Tactical Intervention System, which disrupt hundreds of malicious websites daily. Despite these efforts, public awareness remains crucial to thwarting scams.
