The Johor government has expressed interest in hosting football matches during the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, pending approval from the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail. Known for its world-class facilities and strategic location, Johor aims to attract international football teams and fans, further cementing its reputation as a sports hub.

Johor Youth and Sports Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah highlighted the state’s readiness to host, emphasizing its advanced football facilities and strategic proximity to Singapore. Stadiums proposed include the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Mount Austin Athletic Stadium, Larkin Stadium, and Pasir Gudang City Council Stadium.
The proposal has been presented to Tunku Mahkota Ismail, a known advocate for sports development in Johor. His approval will determine which venues will host the matches, aligning with the state’s vision to elevate its profile in the region.
