In a significant development, Singapore and China have pledged to collaborate on pioneering initiatives in sustainability and digital technology, marking the 20th anniversary of their highest-level bilateral forum.
During his state visit to China, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong co-chaired the 20th session of the Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), setting new strategic directions in sustainability and digital technology between Singapore and China.
The new Memorandum of Understanding signed focuses on deepening cooperation in the blue economy and digital fields, emphasizing green technologies such as carbon trading and green financing.

This year’s JCBC meeting, co-chaired by DPM Gan and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang in Singapore, highlighted ongoing commitments to strengthen the partnership in innovative sectors.
Singapore and China discussed enhancing digital payment systems, digital trade documentation, and supporting each other’s journeys towards digitalisation, underlining the move towards comprehensive digital integration.
The leaders reviewed the progress of the three existing government-to-government projects: the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, Tianjin Eco-City, and the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative, aiming to expand and possibly introduce new projects based on mutual benefits.
