Excitement at BP Batam’s “Mancing Mania” Fishing Event at Taman Rusa

BP Batam commemorated its 53rd anniversary on Sunday, October 27, 2024, with a lively “Mancing Mania” fishing event at Taman Rusa Sekupang, where staff, officials, and their families gathered to enjoy a day of fishing, camaraderie, and environmental initiatives.


BP Batam’s Environmental Facilities Unit organized a festive “Mancing Mania” (Fishing Mania) event in celebration of the organization’s 53rd anniversary. Held at Taman Rusa in Sekupang, the event saw an enthusiastic turnout, with BP Batam staff and officials participating in activities ranging from a morning exercise session to competitive fishing.


The event kicked off with a lively morning exercise attended by over a thousand BP Batam employees, followed by the symbolic planting of two Baobab trees brought from Madagascar. The tree planting was a joint CSR initiative with PT. Jasaraharja Putera, marking BP Batam’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. Acting Head of BP Batam, Purwiyanto, alongside team members and partners, led the ceremony.

Following the tree planting, the fishing competition began, split into two sessions. The first session saw participation from BP Batam’s acting head and other board members, while the second session featured various departmental teams. “Over 70 tagged catfish, each weighing around 1.5 to 2 kilograms, were stocked for the event,” explained BP Batam’s Director of Environmental Facilities, Binsar Tambunan, adding that the fish, typically bottom dwellers, presented a unique challenge for participants.


The competitive spirit was high, with BP Batam’s Business Field team, led by Wan Darussalam, claiming first place with a total catch weight of 6.61 kilograms. The Investment and Area Management team took second with 4.91 kilograms, while the acting head’s team secured third with a 4.26-kilogram total. The competition highlighted team efforts, making for a memorable experience and fostering camaraderie among BP Batam staff.


Purwiyanto extended his appreciation to BP Batam’s Environmental Facilities Unit for organizing the event, emphasizing that it promoted synergy and boosted morale within BP Batam. “Events like this encourage teamwork and contribute to improved performance at BP Batam,” he said, applauding the participants and organizers.

The event concluded with an exciting prize distribution, including dozens of door prizes and a grand prize of a motorcycle. “Congratulations to all the winners of the fishing competition and the door prizes,” Purwiyanto remarked, expressing gratitude to everyone who attended and shared his hopes for an even bigger celebration next year.
