In a brazen daylight robbery in Batam, a local businessman lost SGD 68,000 after thieves smashed his car window and grabbed a bag of cash. The incident occurred outside the Tua Poh Tie restaurant in Nagoya, Lubuk Baja area, this past Thursday.

A businessman identified only by his initials HS, suffered a significant loss when his parked car was targeted by thieves. The stolen money, amounting to SGD 68,000, had just been withdrawn from the bank for his company, PT. Putra Pulau Bontong Perkasa.

The theft occurred during a rainy midday when the victim and a colleague stopped for lunch. Taking advantage of the reduced visibility and distracted setting, the perpetrators broke the passenger-side window of the victim’s Honda HR-V and made off with the cash.

 

The Batam police, under the direction of the Lubuk Baja Police Chief, Kompol Yudi Arvian, confirmed the incident and have launched a full investigation. Efforts are underway to gather evidence, including CCTV footage from around the restaurant.

This incident is part of a troubling increase in crime in the Batam area, prompting local law enforcement to prioritize business and personal security.

Local business owners are increasingly concerned about safety, calling for more visible policing and security measures in commercial areas to deter crime.
