The National Council for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in Indonesia has approved the expansion of the Nongsa Special Economic Zone in Batam, aiming to transform it into a significant digital and technological hub in Southeast Asia. The expansion proposal for the Nongsa SEZ was approved in a recent session of the National SEZ Council, held on September 24, 2024. Minister Airlangga Hartarto announced that the government is preparing regulations to support this initiative, with a government regulation (PP) expected to be finalized by mid-October 2024.
The expansion is primarily focused on developing a state-of-the-art data center, proposed by PT Taman Resor Internet. This aligns with Indonesia’s broader strategy to enhance its digital infrastructure and support innovation and investment in technology.
