Indonesia is poised to enhance its role in the regional energy market with a significant agreement to export electricity to Singapore, involving sustainable energy sources and potentially worth billions of dollars.

Set against the backdrop of increasing global emphasis on sustainable energy solutions, Indonesia is stepping up by finalizing plans to export renewable electricity to Singapore. This agreement, expected to be signed at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) in Jakarta, underscores both countries’ commitment to green energy and economic synergy.

Scheduled for signature at the ISF 2024 on September 5-6, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) covers the export of renewable electricity to Singapore. Several companies have already received conditional approval from Singapore to participate in this power export program. Following this, conditional licenses are anticipated, paving the way for exports to commence by late 2027 or early 2028.

This export project is not just about selling electricity; it mandates the use of locally manufactured solar modules and batteries, aiming to bolster Indonesia’s renewable energy manufacturing sector.

The ISF 2024 is set to be a major event in the Asia Pacific climate and sustainability scene, second only to COP29 in Azerbaijan, with over 8,000 participants from 50 countries. Key discussions will focus on green economy, renewable energy transitions, and sustainability practices.
