The Batam City government has announced its full support for PT Pulau Abang Besar’s significant investment in developing tourism and agrotourism on Abang Besar Island, as detailed in a meeting held at the Batam City Hall on August 28, 2024.
In a strategic move to enhance regional tourism, PT Pulau Abang Besar plans substantial investment to develop the Abang Besar Island in Galang Sub-district. This initiative aims to not only enhance the tourist appeal of the region but also contribute to its economic development through sustainable practices.

During a meeting at the Batam City Hall, Jefridin, the Secretary of Batam City, expressed the local government’s complete backing for the project, emphasizing the potential growth and benefits it could bring to the city. The investment plan includes the construction of villas, cottages, and entertainment facilities, along with a 200-hectare coconut pandan plantation for agrotourism purposes.
Highlighting the importance of local benefits, Jefridin insisted that the project must employ residents and not just provide passive benefits. In response, Jumani, a representative from PT Pulau Abang Besar, confirmed the company’s commitment to hiring local workers and supporting micro-business facilities for local entrepreneurs.

The project will feature an array of tourist attractions, including luxury accommodations and recreational amenities. Additionally, the agrotourism component will focus on cultivating coconut pandan, enhancing the area’s agricultural tourism appeal.
With support from the Batam City government, the investment by PT Pulau Abang Besar is expected to significantly boost the local economy by attracting tourists and creating job opportunities. The successful implementation of this project could serve as a model for similar developments in other regions.
