Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration has introduced a new red and white passport design, coinciding with the country’s 79th Independence Day, reflecting national pride and enhanced security measures.
In a significant update to its travel documents, Indonesia has launched a new passport design that not only reflects the national flag colors but also incorporates advanced security technologies to combat forgery and ensure the holder’s security internationally.
The new passport design was revealed at a grand event at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta. The Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly, delivered the keynote address, praising the Directorate General of Immigration for its continuous improvements and its role in promoting Indonesian culture globally.
According to Silmy Karim, Director General of Immigration, the redesign goes beyond aesthetics, integrating standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to include features that prevent tampering and forgery, ensuring the document’s integrity.
The new passports will be e-passports, featuring polycarbonate data pages, heat-resistant covers, and UV-sensitive threading. These elements are designed to protect embedded chips and personal data against sophisticated forgery attempts.
Each passport page will display unique fabric motifs from various Indonesian regions, which transform under UV light, enhancing both security and cultural representation.

Since its inception in 1945, the Indonesian passport has undergone several changes in cover color and design, reflecting the nation’s historical and technological progression. The latest design marks a significant milestone in its continuous evolution.
