On Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Batam Class I Special Immigration Office, in conjunction with various governmental agencies, initiated a comprehensive joint maritime operation aimed at enforcing law and bolstering border security, particularly in the strategic waters of Batam.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in Batam’s waters, often used as transit points by illegal immigrants, including two apprehended Chinese nationals.
The operation involved key agencies such as the TNI Angkatan Laut IV Batam, KSOP Batam, Customs and Port Authority, and the Port Health Office, highlighting the collaborative approach to regional security.

Launched from the International Port of Sekupang, the operation covered key water areas, including Sekupang and Batu Ampar waters, where the Chinese nationals were detected and detained.
Initial findings indicated discrepancies in the immigration status of the detained individuals, leading to temporary passport seizure and further investigations scheduled at the Batam Class I Special Immigration Office.
The operation underscores Batam’s commitment to legal enforcement and educational outreach, aiming to foster stronger inter-agency coordination and compliance with immigration laws.
