At the 17th Shanghai International Exhibition of Intercity and Urban Mass, Rail+Metro China 2024, Indonesia presented several upcoming rail projects, indicating a robust opportunity for Chinese investors in the Indonesian cities of Bandung and the new capital, Nusantara.

The Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) from Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation showcased urban rail projects for Bandung and the new capital, IKN (Nusantara), at a prominent rail industry event in Shanghai. These projects are part of Indonesia’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2029, aiming to enhance the country’s rail infrastructure.

The Bandung Urban Rail project is particularly significant due to its strategic role in improving urban mobility and its projected 11.9 percent Investment Return Rate, backed by a 49 percent viability gap fund.

The new capital projects include the Sepinggan-IKN Airport Rail Link and an urban rail system designed to integrate the new capital with surrounding cities like Balikpapan, enhancing regional connectivity.

These projects not only aim to improve urban mobility and connectivity but also open avenues for significant Chinese investment and collaboration in Indonesia’s burgeoning rail sector.

Indonesia seeks Chinese investment for critical urban rail projects in Bandung and IKN, enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities in these key Indonesian regions.
