After a decade of operations, Batam Aero Technic (BAT), the maintenance arm of Lion Air Group, has evolved beyond just serving its parent company’s fleet. This facility now caters to a range of international clients, reflecting its significant role in regional aircraft maintenance.
Located at Hang Nadim Airport in Batam, BAT has become a pivotal player in Southeast Asia’s aviation sector. Initially built in 2012 and operational since 2014, BAT has expanded its capacity and capabilities, serving not just Lion Air but also international airlines.
From servicing six aircraft at a time, BAT can now handle up to 23 aircraft per day, including various models from Boeing and Airbus. This expansion has significantly reduced maintenance wait times for the Lion Air Group’s fleet.
BAT has achieved certifications from multiple international aviation authorities, allowing it to service aircraft from Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and beyond. Notable clients include airlines like Batik Malaysia and Cebu Pacific from the Philippines.

Initially employing 500 workers, BAT now provides jobs for 1,900 local professionals, including many graduates from Indonesian aviation academies. This growth has not only spurred local employment but also contributed to the regional economy.
BAT collaborates with the Polytechnic of Batam and has signed agreements with 16 Indonesian universities to enhance the aviation ecosystem by providing internships and employment opportunities to students.

This advancement not only enhances the travel experience by ensuring higher standards of aircraft maintenance but also positions Batam as a strategic hub in the aerospace industry within the region.
Batam Aero Technic, established by Lion Air Group, has emerged as a beacon of self-sufficiency in Indonesia’s aviation sector, servicing both domestic and international carriers and significantly contributing to local employment and economic growth in Batam.
