Amazon Web Services (AWS) plans to invest S$12 billion in Singapore over the next four years, expanding its total investment in the Asia-Pacific region.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced plans to invest S$12 billion (USD 8.88 billion, IDR 142.45 trillion) in Singapore between 2024 and 2028 to expand its cloud computing infrastructure. This brings AWS’s total planned investment in Singapore to S$23 billion (USD 17.03 billion) by 2028, up from S$11.5 billion in 2023.

Priscilla Chong, Country Manager of AWS, stated, “AWS is doubling its cloud infrastructure investment in Singapore from 2024 to 2028 to meet customer demand and strengthen Singapore’s position as an attractive regional launchpad for innovation.”

AWS is collaborating with the Singaporean government, public sector organizations, and corporations to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI in Singapore.

The announcement comes shortly after AWS revealed plans to invest USD 5 billion in Thailand and USD 6 billion in Malaysia.

With a tech-savvy population of 670 million, Southeast Asia is attracting significant interest from global tech giants. Microsoft recently announced cloud investments worth USD 2.2 billion in Malaysia and USD 1.7 billion in Indonesia. Apple CEO Tim Cook also pledged USD 250 million to Singapore during his recent visit.
