During their final annual Leaders’ Retreat in Jakarta, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, alongside their successors, discussed bilateral agreements and future cooperation, drawing global media attention.
On Monday, April 29, 2024, Presidents and Prime Ministers from Indonesia and Singapore convened for a pivotal meeting that not only reviewed past collaborations but also set the stage for future relations under new leadership. This meeting comes at a time when both nations are preparing for significant political transitions.
The retreat was significant as it marked the final official meeting between President Joko Widodo and PM Lee Hsien Loong, with their designated successors, Prabowo Subianto and Lawrence Wong, participating in the discussions.

The leaders reviewed progress on key agreements, including defense cooperation and extradition, which were signed during their tenure and have begun to take effect this year.
The discussions highlighted new investment opportunities in Indonesia’s Kendal Industrial Park, Nusantara capital, and the green economy, which Singaporean companies are encouraged to participate in.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace in the Middle East and strengthening ASEAN’s central role in regional issues.
