Indonesia, through its Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), has renewed its partnership with the International Energy Agency (IEA), signing the Joint Work Programme (JWP) for 2024-2025. This agreement aims to bolster Indonesia’s energy transition and enhance energy policy development with a focus on sustainable practices.

Since formally joining the IEA in 2015, Indonesia has actively engaged in collaborative efforts to refine its energy strategies and adopt sustainable energy technologies. The latest JWP marks the sixth such agreement between Indonesia and the IEA, emphasizing advanced energy solutions and capacity building.

Indonesia’s cooperation with the IEA dates back to 2006, highlighting a long-term commitment to enhancing its energy sector through international collaboration.

The 2024-2025 JWP aims to accelerate Indonesia’s energy transition and its goals for a Net-Zero Emission (NZE) future, indicating a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.

The IEA will assist Indonesia in developing a national electricity database and conducting studies in bioenergy and energy efficiency, crucial steps towards understanding and implementing cutting-edge energy solutions.

The agreement includes support for analyzing Indonesia’s methane emissions using the Global Methane Tracker, aligning with global efforts to tackle one of the most potent greenhouse gases.
