During the Indonesia-Singapore Business Forum 2024, Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, highlighted the proposal of a $10 short-term visa to facilitate tourist entry into the Riau Islands. This initiative is seen as a strategic move to bolster tourism and capitalize on the archipelago’s position as the third-largest entry point for international visitors in Indonesia, with a target of attracting 3 million tourists this year.
Sandiaga Uno’s talks with Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, underscore a shared commitment to enhancing economic and tourism collaboration, including the proposed visa scheme.
The proposed short-term visa, priced at $10 for a seven-day stay, is designed to attract more international tourists by offering a more affordable and convenient entry option.
Initial implementation of the visa program will involve a pilot project, selecting a specific number of applicants and companies, to evaluate its effectiveness and impact on tourism.
