Tanjungpinang Bolsters Tourism Competitiveness through Cross-Sector Collaboration

In a concerted effort to attract 100,000 international tourists in 2024, key stakeholders across various sectors in Tanjungpinang, including central agencies, the provincial government of Kepri, and local tourism operators, have pledged to work in synergy.

The commitment was voiced during the Ngobrol Pariwisata Kepri (NGOPI) event, hosted by the Kepri Tourism Department, signifying a unified approach to propel Tanjungpinang’s tourism industry forward.

The Kepri Tourism Department emphasized the need for support and synergy from all sectors, including the provincial and city governments of Tanjungpinang, to meet the ambitious target of 100,000 international tourists in 2024, contributing to a broader goal of 3 million visitors to the Kepri region.

Cultural events such as the Indera Sakti Festival, Raja Ali Haji Festival, and art performances on Penyengat Island are planned throughout the year to entice tourists, according to the Kepri Provincial Culture Department.

The Kepri Cooperative and SME Department outlined six programs to support international tourist arrivals, including international cooperative expos, barter programs with Johor, cross-border QRIS implementation for easier tourist transactions, and complimentary souvenirs for hotel guests.

Infrastructure improvements were also discussed, with the Tanjungpinang Public Works Department working on road enhancements to improve access to key tourist destinations like the Vihara Patung Seribu.

The Housing and Settlement Department of Kepri plans to revitalize historical sites, such as ancient wells on Penyengat Island, enhancing their appeal to tourists and improving their hygiene standards.
