Batam’s Container Traffic Records 8% Growth in 2023

Batam’s ports have witnessed an 8% increase in container traffic in 2023, marking a significant upswing in trade and economic activity in the region.

In 2023, Batam observed a notable increase in container or containerized cargo movement through its ports, signifying a positive trend in both domestic and international trade activities.

The container throughput in Batam reached 624,000 TEUs in 2023, a substantial 8% increase compared to 577,161 TEUs in 2022.

Contributing significantly, Batu Ampar Port accounted for 84% of the total container traffic, following its operational takeover by PT Persero Batam since November 1, 2023.

Since the operation of the Batu Ampar Container Terminal, there has been a 50% reduction in berthing time, enhanced by the introduction of new equipment like STS Cranes and Harbor Mobile Cranes.

A planned investment of Rp 3.8 trillion for the development of the Batu Ampar Container Terminal is expected to further boost the container traffic and economic growth in Batam.
