The family of Reib Dylan Otasason, a 29-year-old Canadian national who drowned in the pool of Nirwana Garden Hotel in Bintan, has requested an autopsy to be conducted in Singapore. This decision was made despite initial medical examination findings suggesting a heart attack as the cause of death.
COO of PT Bintan Resort Cakrawala (BRC), Abdul Wahab, revealed the family’s decision for an autopsy in Singapore. Initial medical reports did not indicate any signs of violence but suggested a possible heart attack.
The preliminary medical examination showed no signs of foul play, assuming a heart attack.

Bintan Police’s AKP Marganda Pandapotan suggested the death might be due to a leg cramp, leading to drowning.
Witness Ding Xuan noticed the victim floating in the pool in a rigid state. Despite CPR attempts by bystanders, the victim showed no reaction.
Police found the pool to be 1.2 meters deep and are currently investigating the incident.
