Indonesian Navy Launches Advanced Patrol Vessels to Strengthen Maritime Security

The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has officially launched the Fast Patrol Vessel (KRI) PC 60 and the Special Mission Combat Boat, enhancing its fleet in the Koarmada II and Koarmada III regions, including the main naval bases Lantamal VI Makassar and Lantamal XIV Sorong.

Under the leadership of Admiral Muhammad Ali, the Indonesian Navy continues to advance its capabilities with domestically produced warships and combat boats. These vessels, funded by the state budget from 2021 to 2023, are a testament to the country’s commitment to self-reliance in defense.

The KRI Marlin-877 and Patkamla Jefman were constructed by PT Palindo Marine in Batam. The KRI Marlin-877 was commissioned based on the decree of the TNI Commander No. Kep/222/II/2023, while the Patkamla Jefman was authorized by Ksal’s Decree No. Kep/2661/X/2023.

The total budget for these fast patrol vessels was approximately IDR 220 billion over 22 months. They are expected to be versatile in peace and war situations, aiding in various law enforcement activities at sea.

KRI Marlin-877, a 520-ton vessel with a 60-meter length, is equipped with advanced weaponry, including a 40 mm cannon with remote control and smaller caliber guns.

The Patkamla Jefman boasts features like armor protection standard STANAG level 2 and can operate in coastal, riverine, and swamp areas with a maximum speed of 47.5 knots.

Currently, the Indonesian Navy has 18 standard combat boats and requires an additional nine Special Mission Combat Boats for the Koarmada III.

For Indonesia’s neighbors, including Singapore, and the international community, the expansion of Indonesia’s naval capabilities through these sophisticated vessels enhances regional maritime security and demonstrates Indonesia’s growing self-reliance in defense technology.

The Indonesian Navy’s introduction of the KRI Marlin-877 and Patkamla Jefman marks a significant advancement in its maritime defense capabilities. Built domestically by PT Palindo Marine, these vessels signify Indonesia’s dedication to strengthening its naval forces and ensuring maritime security in the region.
