Union projection points to a 10.8% rise, but official talks have not begun.
Batam’s 2027 wage debate is beginning to take shape, with labor representatives projecting a substantial increase while the city government says no official figure can be determined until national wage regulations are issued.
FSPMI Projects UMK Could Reach Rp5.9 Million
The Federation of Indonesian Metal Workers Unions, or FSPMI, has calculated that Batam’s 2027 minimum wage could rise by about 10.8 percent, potentially taking the monthly UMK to around Rp5.9 million, approx. S$472. The figure remains a labor-side projection and has not been adopted by the Batam government or the city wage council.
Batam’s 2026 UMK Stands at Rp5.36 Million
Batam’s 2026 minimum wage is Rp5,357,982 per month, an increase of Rp368,382, or approximately 7.38%, from the 2025 minimum wage of Rp4,989,600. During a demonstration on October 1, labor representatives also called for a minimum increase of 11% for 2027. If applied to the current wage, that proposal would bring Batam’s monthly UMK to approximately Rp5.95 million.
City Government Still Waiting for Central Rules
Batam Manpower Office head Yudi Suprapto said the city has not started calculating an official 2027 UMK because it is still waiting for regulations from the central government. Those rules will serve as the basis for discussions between the local government and Batam Wage Council, meaning any percentage currently circulating remains unofficial.
Wage Discussions Targeted for November
The Batam Manpower Office expects discussions to begin around the second week of November 2026, although the schedule depends on when Jakarta issues the required regulations. Yudi said the central rules are often released close to the deadline, leaving regional governments dependent on the national timetable before formally determining local wage levels.
Final Increase Has Yet to Be Determined
The Batam Wage Council already has its 2026 membership decree in place, but the official 2027 wage will ultimately depend on the national calculation framework and subsequent local deliberations. As a result, the projected 10.8 percent increase and Rp5.9 million figure should be viewed as a proposal rather than the confirmed UMK for next year.
The coming wage negotiations will be closely watched by Batam workers and businesses because any increase will directly affect labor costs and worker incomes in one of Indonesia’s major industrial cities. For Indonesians in Batam, the central question is whether the final wage adjustment will keep pace with economic and living-cost pressures. For Singaporean businesses with manufacturing and supply-chain connections to Batam, the final 2027 UMK could also influence operating and investment costs across the nearby industrial hub.
