The Riau Islands Province (Kepri) has been officially selected as the host for the twelfth Pekan Olahraga Wilayah (Porwil) in Sumatera, set for the year 2027.

The General Chairman of Kepri’s National Sports Committee (KONI), Usep RS, announced after a meeting with KONI leaders from across Sumatra that Kepri will organize the twelfth Porwil in 2027, highlighting the region’s readiness and the Governor’s support.

The decision was made at a meeting at the Grand Jatra Hotel, choosing Kepri over Jambi, another candidate province.

Kepri’s preparedness as host was confirmed by the region’s Governor, Ansar Ahmad, signaling strong governmental backing for the event.

There will be an expansion to 20 sports disciplines for Porwil XII 2027, as agreed by the KONI Sumatra meeting and approved by the Central KONI.

Infrastructure preparations, particularly for athletics and swimming facilities, are underway as Kepri gears up to welcome athletes and officials.

The event is expected to boost national and international sports achievements as well as promote tourism within the Riau Archipelago.

With Kepri’s proximity to Singapore, the Porwil XII in 2027 presents an opportunity for Singaporeans and international tourists to experience the region’s culture and hospitality, potentially impacting regional tourism and sports engagement.
