Tanjungpinang City observed a significant rise in international tourists in September 2023, with neighboring Singapore leading, followed by China and India in third and fourth positions respectively.
Tanjungpinang, a prominent tourist destination, is witnessing a steady influx of international tourists, bolstered by neighboring countries and further supported by tourists from Asian giants like China and India.
Official data released by the Tanjungpinang City Central Statistics Agency (BPS) indicated 4,827 visits in September, marking an increase of 14.33% from the previous month.
Singaporean tourists dominated the scene, contributing to approximately 47.79% of total visits, translating to 2,307 visitors.

The surge in September 2023 was primarily due to an increase in visitors from Singapore (360 visitors), China (212 visitors), and India (49 visitors).
Overall, the Riau Islands Province saw 132,000 visitors in September 2023. Of this, around 3.66% entered through Tanjungpinang City. Batam City was the leading entry point with 102,200 visitors (77.42%), followed by Bintan District with 20,542 visitors (15.56%), and Karimun District with 4,345 visitors (3.29%).
From January-September 2023, Tanjungpinang recorded a total of 39,667 international tourists. Dominating the visits were tourists from Singapore (21,977 visitors, 55.40%), Malaysia (4,858 visitors, 12.25%), and China (3,281 visitors, 8.27%).
Tanjungpinang’s rising appeal as a tourist destination, especially among Singaporeans, indicates its growing prominence in the Southeast Asian tourism circuit. This increase in international tourists underscores its potential and offers a diverse cultural experience for travelers from Singapore and beyond.
