In a proactive effort to control inflation and maintain the stability of food prices, the City Government of Tanjungpinang is set to roll out the Affordable Food Movement (GPM) across all its sub-districts.
Tanjungpinang, holding the position as the sixth-lowest in national inflation rates, embarks on a food price control initiative amidst an economically challenging environment.
Acting Mayor of Tanjungpinang, Hasan, highlighted inflation control as a key focus, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and adjusting food prices.
The implementation of the GPM in each sub-district is viewed as a strategic move to directly impact and manage market prices.

Hasan plans to engage with food distributors and retailers for better market understanding and effective price control, aiming to balance both consumer and seller needs.
According to Mangamputua Gultom, Head of BPS (Central Statistics Agency) of Tanjungpinang City, the inflation rate in September 2023 was recorded at 0.42%, marking a decrease from September 2022’s 0.92%.
The city government has allocated the GPM through the Regional Incentive Fund (DID), showing a serious commitment to stabilizing food prices.
The initiative taken by Tanjungpinang City reflects a broader Southeast Asian effort to address inflation and ensure food price stability.
