In a crucial meeting held in Jakarta on Tuesday (October 25, 2023), Ansar Ahmad, the Governor of the Riau Islands Province (Kepri), discussed innovative revenue schemes with Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

The discussion centered around enhancing the province’s revenue through Sea Sand Utilization License (IPPL) and the implementation of Spatial Conformity in Marine Space Utilization Activities (PKKPRL), under the framework of Government Regulation No. 12 of 2019 on Regional Financial Management.

Ansar Ahmad highlighted the need for collaborative effort from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to support regional income through business grants in line with provincial development requirements.

The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, showed support for increasing the province’s revenue, emphasizing the direct benefits for the local communities.

Menteri KKP announced plans to build 10 integrated and modern fishing villages as pilot projects around fishing zones in 2023, potentially extending to the Kepri province, including Natuna and Anambas islands in 2024.

The development of these modern fishing villages aims to enhance productivity and prosperity, focusing on communities with 70-80% of residents being fishermen.

This meeting and the subsequent actions are pivotal in promoting sustainable fishing and maritime practices. The initiative not only supports local communities but also opens new avenues for tourism and international cooperation, especially for neighboring countries like Singapore, emphasizing responsible and sustainable marine resource management.
