Batam’s city administration has rolled out proactive measures to curb inflation, one of which involves distributing Government Food Reserve Assistance (CPP) rice for 2023.
Amid rising inflation concerns, the Batam city government initiated the rice distribution to families benefiting from the scheme, symbolizing its commitment to ensuring food stability.
The city’s Secretary, Jefridin, M.Pd., underlined this measure was in line with the directives from the Minister of Home Affairs. Together with Kepri’s Deputy Governor, Marlin Agustina Rudi, he personally distributed the rice to residents of Tanjungsari and Sekanakraya areas.
Held at Pasar Induk Belakangpadang, the event saw 1,207 beneficiaries receive 10 kg of premium quality rice each, a gesture representing the city’s commitment to aiding its citizens.
Jefridin, representing the Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi, expressed hope that this initiative would ease the economic burdens of the city’s residents. Beyond ensuring affordable rice prices, the initiative forms a broader strategy, including market operations and affordable basic goods bazaars, to suppress inflation.
The city’s inflation control team, as Jefridin highlighted, had recently assessed staple food prices, noting that rice prices in Batam remain below those in Java, ensuring ample stock for the year.
At the gathering, Jefridin encouraged unity among Batam’s residents, seeking their support for the city’s developmental programs. Kepri’s Deputy Governor, Marlin, echoed similar sentiments, urging residents to view the aid as a testament to the government’s commitment to its citizens.
