The collaboration between Bank Indonesia and the Provincial Government of Kepri Islands underlines the rising potential for the region’s SMEs in the export market.
Bank Indonesia teamed up with the Kepri Provincial Government in the event “Gebyar Melayu Pesisir 2023 Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT)”, targeting SMEs to intensify their export activities.
Bank Indonesia’s representative for Kepri, Suryono, elaborates on the SME export roadmap, which includes:
Transitioning subsistence SMEs to potential SMEs,
Successful SMEs linking to markets and finances,
SMEs embracing digital platforms,
SMEs venturing into exports.
Bank Indonesia remains committed to developing SMEs through three policy pillars: corporatization, capacity building, and financing accessibility, aiming for innovative, adaptive, and productive SMEs.
For 2023, Bank Indonesia’s Kepri branch set a sales target of IDR 10 billion, up from IDR 8 billion in 2022. As of August 2023, they have achieved 85% of this goal.
Emphasizing the importance of digital transactions for international markets, Suryono revealed that all areas in Kepri are digital-based, as indicated by their ETPD (Elektronifikasi Transaksi Pemerintah Daerah) status.
Kepri’s Governor, Ansar Ahmad, encourages SMEs to exploit global markets. Although domestic VAT is high, the region offers tax-free incentives for exports.
Singaporeans and international investors can view Kepri as a flourishing hub for innovative SMEs, particularly in the export market. With incentives such as tax-free exports and a strong inclination towards digital transactions, Kepri is positioning itself as an enticing destination for investment and business collaborations.
