Muhammad Rudi, the Head of Badan Pengusahaan Batam (BP Batam), recently hosted Irjen (Ret.) Benny Mamoto, the Chief of the National Police Commission, and his delegation. The meeting, held on September 14, 2023, at the Marketing Center of BP Batam, focused on assessing the aftermath of recent protests at the BP Batam office, which ended in turmoil on September 11, 2023.
Irjen (Ret.) Benny Mamoto’s visit aimed to gain firsthand insights into the current situation in Batam following the disruptive demonstrations. He expressed the need for a detailed account of the events leading up to the unrest and sought information about the development of Rempang Island.
During the meeting, Irjen (Ret.) Benny Mamoto emphasized the importance of finding swift and effective solutions to issues surrounding one of the National Strategic Programs for 2023, the development of Rempang Eco-City.
Muhammad Rudi, Head of BP Batam, extended his appreciation for the visit by the National Police Commission delegation. He took the opportunity to provide a chronological account of recent events related to the Rempang Eco-City development.
Rudi reassured the delegation of BP Batam’s commitment to meeting the needs of the affected communities on Rempang Island due to the development project. This includes providing houses valued at Rp120 million per household on land of up to 500 square meters, as well as addressing land and property legalities.
He expressed optimism that through this development and relocation effort, the well-being of the people on Rempang Island would significantly improve.
Accompanying Muhammad Rudi in the meeting were Wahjoe Triwidijo Koentjoro, Member of the Administration and Finance Department, and Wan Darussalam, Member of the Investment Department.
