In a stunning display of maritime cooperation, the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) joined forces for the Eagle Indopura 2023 joint exercise in the waters off Natuna. Their mission: to sink an enemy vessel.

During the joint exercise, the Indonesian warships KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda-367 and KRI Halasan-630, along with the Republic of Singapore Navy vessels RSS Vigour-92 and RSS Interpid-69, successfully executed a Surface Threat Engagement exercise. This exercise was designed to simulate the interception of enemy surface vessels that could potentially disrupt the joint training activities.

The “Killer Tomato,” serving as the simulated enemy vessel, became the target of a coordinated assault. The warships, including KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda-367, RSS Interpid-69, RSS Vigour-92, and KRI Halasan-630, used precise artillery fire with 76 mm and 57 mm cannons to sink the simulated enemy ship from a distance of 3 miles.

The joint exercise also involved the detection of underwater targets using APV-RT launched by the Indonesian Navy’s Arsenal team from KRI Halasan-630. This exercise showcased a formation that included the Panther helicopter, an Indonesian CN-235 MPA aircraft, and a Singaporean MPA 121-SQ aircraft.

Colonel Navy (P) Obsen A. Naibaho, the Commander of the Eagle Indopura 2023 task force, emphasized that this exercise was part of a scenario-based naval warfare training. Its objective was to enhance the professionalism and combat readiness of the naval personnel on KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda-367 and KRI Halasan-630, ensuring they perform at their best during joint exercises with the Singaporean Navy (RSN).

This joint exercise aligns with one of the priority programs of Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, Chief of the Indonesian Navy (Kasal), which emphasizes the importance of operational management in achieving complex and significant mission objectives.

Such joint exercises not only strengthen bilateral military ties but also contribute to the regional security and stability of Southeast Asia. The collaborative efforts between Indonesia and Singapore in maintaining a strong naval presence in the region send a message of unity and readiness to respond to potential threats.

For Singaporeans and international visitors, the successful joint exercise highlights the commitment of both Indonesia and Singapore to regional security and cooperation. It underscores the importance of strong naval forces in safeguarding the waters of Southeast Asia and ensuring safe maritime travel in the region.

In a remarkable display of naval collaboration, the Indonesian and Singaporean Navies conducted a joint exercise, sinking an enemy vessel off the coast of Natuna. This demonstration of strength and cooperation sends a clear message of regional security preparedness and stability.
