Exports from Indonesia’s Riau Islands (Kepri) have seen an impressive rise, reaching $1,619.81 million in July 2023 – an 11.35% growth compared to June 2023.

The Riau Islands, an archipelago province in Indonesia, plays a pivotal role in regional trade. Its proximity to Singapore and Malaysia makes it a strategic point for exports.

Oil and gas exports from Kepri rose to $343.35 million, marking a 9.81% increase from June 2023.

Non-oil and gas exports hit $1,276.46 million, showcasing an 11.78% growth from the previous month. The most significant non-oil and gas export category was electrical machinery/equipment, bringing in a whopping $4,741.33 million between January to July 2023, accounting for 53.30% of all non-oil and gas exports.

Singapore has been identified as Kepri’s top export destination. From January to July 2023, exports to Singapore amounted to $4,121.43 million, which is 36.53% of the total. Notably, Singapore was the top destination for both non-oil and gas exports at $2,704.93 million and oil and gas exports at $1,416.50 million.

A breakdown by port shows Batu Ampar as the leader in export value at $5,912.59 million, followed by ports such as Sekupang, Tanjung Balai Karimun, and Kabil/Panau. These ports played a vital role, accounting for 91.40% of exports between January and July.

In terms of export volume, Tanjung Balai Karimun led the charge with 5,998.98 thousand tons, followed by Kabil/Panau and Tarempa. The top five ports accounted for 88.95% of the total export volume in the first seven months of 2023.

Singapore’s prominent role as Kepri’s top export partner signifies the deep-rooted trade relationship between the two regions. As Kepri continues to grow its exports, especially in non-oil and gas sectors, Singaporeans and international visitors can expect a broader range of products and goods. It also underlines the importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties and fostering more collaboration in various sectors.
