Jakarta International Stadium has gained international recognition for one of its most distinctive engineering features, placing an Indonesian infrastructure project among global winners at a major industry awards event in Singapore.
JIS Wins Bentley Infrastructure Award
Jakarta International Stadium, or JIS, won an international award at the Bentley Year in Infrastructure Awards 2026 in Singapore on October 7, with its retractable roof engineering receiving recognition in the structural engineering category. The award was accepted by the team from PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung Tbk, or WIKA Gedung, one of the project’s main contractors.
Retractable Roof Becomes Winning Feature
WIKA Gedung also highlighted the use of artificial intelligence in its engineering and construction approach. According to the team’s final presentation, AI was used to help reduce the risk of errors and potential losses associated with the retractable-roof project.
More Than 300 Projects Enter Competition
The 2026 Bentley YII Awards received more than 300 project submissions from 53 countries. Only 36 projects were selected as finalists across 12 categories, covering different stages of infrastructure development, industry, and engineering disciplines. JIS advanced from that international pool to win its category.
AI Used During Construction Process
WIKA Gedung also highlighted the use of artificial intelligence during the construction and engineering process. According to the presentation, AI was used to reduce the risk of errors and potential losses while developing the stadium’s retractable roof, adding a digital technology element to the project’s structural engineering approach.
WIKA Gedung Highlights Indonesian Expertise
WIKA Gedung Technical Digitalization Manager Arddhanu Zunanto Hardhi said the award demonstrates the capability of Indonesian engineers to deliver complex projects that can receive international recognition. He expressed hope that more Indonesian infrastructure and engineering projects would gain similar recognition globally.
