The Riau Islands Province has launched an ambitious tourism calendar for 2025, marking a renewed push to reclaim its position as one of Indonesia’s leading destinations.

Kepri Reignites Its Tourism Ambition

The Riau Islands Provincial Government officially unveiled the Kepri Tourism Calendar 2025, presenting a lineup of 75 flagship events designed to appeal to a wide range generations. The launch took place on November 25, 2025, during the opening of the Kepri International Art and Culture at the LAM Kepri building courtyard. Thousands of residents attended, enjoying an international cultural parade and a performance by the national band Wali.

Strong Government Backing for Tourism Growth

The event was attended by key national and regional figures, including Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha, Governor Ansar Ahmad, Deputy Governor Nyanyang Haris Pratamura, and regional leaders across Kepri. Their presence underscored the province’s commitment to strengthening tourism as a key economic pillar.

A Strategy to Reclaim National Standing

In his speech, Governor Ansar Ahmad emphasized that the tourism calendar is a strategic effort to restore Kepri’s pre-pandemic performance. In 2019, the province ranked second nationally behind Bali for domestic and international arrivals. Although Kepri currently sits in third place after Bali and Jakarta, Ansar expressed confidence that the region is on track for a full rebound.

Deputy Minister Giring Ganesha praised the province for its synergy in balancing cultural preservation and tourism development. He highlighted the long-term value of cultural events, noting that when culture flourishes, so do the creative economy and tourism.
