Top seeds drop just two games in dominant straight-sets win to continue strong clay swing.

Indonesia’s Aldila Sutjiadi and Russia’s Vera Zvonareva powered into the women’s doubles quarter-finals at the Morocco Open 2026 in Rabat with a ruthless straight-sets victory on Tuesday night.

Top Seeds Dominate Opening Round
Playing their first-round match at the WTA 250 event, top seeds Sutjiadi/Zvonareva dismantled the Kazakhstan–Argentina pairing of Zhibek Kulambayeva/Nicole Fossa Huergo 6-1, 6-1. The duo were sharp from the start, conceding just two games in a performance built on clean serving and disciplined returning. They committed only two double faults compared with four from their opponents and kept sustained pressure on return.

Superior Serving Stats Underline Control
According to WTA data on Tuesday, Sutjiadi/Zvonareva landed 76 per cent of their first serves, winning 75 per cent of those points and an impressive 71 per cent behind their second serve. In contrast, Kulambayeva/Fossa Huergo managed 69 per cent first serves in, but won only 38 per cent of first-serve points and 33 per cent on second serve. The gulf in serving efficiency translated into repeated breaks of serve and a straightforward passage to the last eight.

All-Sister American Duo Await In Quarter-Finals
The emphatic win sets up a quarter-final clash with American sisters Carmen Corley and Ivana Corley. The Morocco Open is Aldila’s third clay-court event of the season after the Madrid Open and Italian Open. Partnering fellow Indonesian Janice Tjen, she reached the quarter-finals at the WTA 1000 Madrid before losing to veterans Zvonareva/Laura Siegemund, and then fell in the first round in Rome to Coco Gauff/Caty McNally. Teaming up now with Zvonareva, Aldila will look to push deeper on the clay swing.

Morocco Open Caps Busy Clay Swing For Aldila
The Morocco Open is Aldila’s third clay tournament of the season, following strong showings at the Madrid Open and Italian Open 2026. In Madrid, pairing with fellow Indonesian Janice Tjen, Aldila reached the quarter-finals at the WTA 1000 event before losing to Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund, a veteran duo. In Rome, Aldila and Janice exited in the first round against Coco Gauff and Caty McNally. Teaming now with Zvonareva, the 2021 US Open doubles champion, gives Aldila a valuable opportunity to learn alongside an established Grand Slam winner and refine her game on slower surfaces.

Janice Tjen Also Advances In Rabat
Janice Tjen, also competing at the Morocco Open 2026, made a winning start in singles. Seeded at the top of the draw, she progressed to the second round by defeating Swedish qualifier Cajisa Wilda Hennemann 6-1, 7-5. Her victory means Indonesian interest in Rabat extends across both singles and doubles draws, with Aldila and Janice on parallel tracks in their European clay campaigns.

Aldila Sutjiadi and Vera Zvonareva’s commanding 6-1, 6-1 win in Rabat underlines the power of their new partnership and keeps Indonesia firmly on the map in women’s doubles. For Indonesians and Singaporeans, their progress—alongside Janice Tjen’s singles run—signals growing regional strength on the WTA tour, particularly as players adapt to the demands of top-level clay-court competition.
