More than 651kg of narcotics and 12,000 litres of liquid drugs incinerated in major cleanup operation

Johor police have disposed of RM43.54 million worth of drugs and related equipment collected from cases spanning 24 years, in one of the state’s largest-ever drug disposal operations aimed at maintaining safety and reducing environmental risks.

Massive Drug Disposal Operation

Johor police chief CP Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad confirmed that the operation involved 4,528 investigation papers filed between 2000 and 2024. The confiscated narcotics included 651 kilograms of solid drugs and 12,243 litres of liquid drugs, all safely destroyed through an advanced incineration process.

“The drugs disposed of included heroin, cannabis, ketamine, methamphetamine, MDMA, nimetazepam, ketum leaves, yaba pills, and vape liquid,” he said at a press conference at the Johor Police Headquarters.

Enough to Supply Over a Million Addicts

Authorities estimated that the amount destroyed could have sustained the addiction of nearly 1.39 million users. The seized narcotics, if circulated, would have posed a significant threat to public health and safety in Johor and neighbouring regions.

The breakdown of the disposed drugs included:

  • Heroin: 57.81 kg
  • Cannabis: 17.10 kg
  • Ketamine: 94.39 kg
  • Methamphetamine: 49.65 kg
  • MDMA (Ecstasy): 105.64 kg
  • Nimetazepam: 1.59 kg
  • Ketum leaves: 325.38 kg
  • Yaba pills: 193.14 g
  • Vape liquid: 456.10 g

Eco-Friendly Disposal Process

The operation was carried out by a scheduled waste management company at the Telok Panglima Garang disposal site in Selangor, which uses the “scheduled waste-to-energy” method. This modern system incinerates narcotics while converting waste heat into energy — a cleaner and more sustainable solution compared to traditional disposal methods.

“The latest facility uses incineration that is coordinated and pollution-free, ensuring the environment is not affected,” Ab Rahaman said, emphasizing Malaysia’s commitment to safe and sustainable disposal practices.

Long-Term Commitment to Drug Eradication

The large-scale destruction demonstrates the Malaysian police’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse, particularly in Johor, a key entry point for narcotics smuggling. Authorities continue to intensify enforcement efforts under the National Anti-Drug Agency’s strategy to combat addiction and dismantle syndicates.

The disposal of RM43.54 million worth of narcotics underscores Johor’s strong stance on drug control and environmental safety. By using energy-efficient incineration technology, Malaysian authorities not only eliminate illicit substances but also uphold sustainable waste management standards — a model approach for regional law enforcement.
